What Are the Different Types of Surveillance Camera Systems?

Posted on 10:42 by Unknown

Surveillance camera systems can be used to monitor both business and residential properties. Most people use these types of systems to deter burglars or shoplifters as the unlawful acts can be recorded. In many countries, the videos recorded by these types of systems can be used as evidence to prosecute offenders in a court of law. There are many different types of camera systems, but three of the most commonly utilized types are wired, wireless, and mini-wireless systems.

Wired surveillance camera systems usually consist of cables, motion detectors, cameras, and sometimes window sensors. In order to conceal the cables or wires, most people hide them within walls or behind baseboards. If the system is used outside, many times, the wires and cables will be run under landscaping or along the exterior of a building or home. The most advantageous aspect about wired surveillance camera systems is they are not at risk to any type of interference unless damage occurs to the wires, cables, or the actual cameras. If burglars try to disable a wired system by cutting cables or wires, the alert systems automatically activate and an alarm sounds.
Many business and residential properties choose to install wireless surveillance camera systems because of their versatility and flexibility. Wireless systems are very easy to set up because no wires or cables have to be installed and the wireless cameras can be placed in a wide range of places. There are, however, some drawbacks associated with wireless systems. They have to be placed within a certain distance of the system’s radio transmitter and RF interference can sometimes occur.

Any time a business or residential property owner wants a camera system that cannot easily be seen by the human eye, a mini-wireless system is the best type to install. These types of camera systems vary in size, but can be as little as the size of a medium-sized button. While some of these types of systems run off of electricity, most use a nine-volt battery as a power source. Any time a person installs a mini wireless camera, it is important to provide it with a power transformer, as this helps it to continually stay activated. Most times, mini surveillance camera systems are activated by motion sensors, which allow them to conserve energy.

Choosing monitors for surveillance systems

Selecting a monitor for your surveillance system is a relatively minor decision, but there are a couple of important points to keep in mind.

First, make sure to purchase a monitor specially to handle the type of use it will receive. Televisions are not good monitors, since TVs are built to be on for a few hours per day, not the 8 to 24 hours per day they will endure. In some cases, computer monitors do make acceptable substitutes. Flat-panel LCD screens make great surveillance system monitors because they take up little space, have excellent resolution, and generate less heat than regular monitors.

As discussed earlier, make sure your monitor resolution matches your cameras. Buy a monitor with lower resolution and your camera's capabilities will not come through; buy one with higher resolution and you are throwing money away. And of course, make sure you buy color monitors if you opt for color cameras as part of your surveillance system.

Also consider the size: a 9" monitor may be sufficient if the operator is sitting directly in front of it, but a 15" monitor is the smallest you should choose if you plan to combine images from multiple cameras onto one monitor. Merging multiple images onto one screen can be an effective way to save space, and appropriate if there is a dedicated employee who has the ability to zoom in on suspicious activity.

How Does a Surveillance Camera System Work?

A surveillance system may be a wise investment for your personal property or business. The complexity of the surveillance system is daunting; however, many surveillance systems work on any property.

Video
Video surveillance is the central aspect of any surveillance system. Cameras are placed in strategic areas of a business or property to capture intruders on video.

Types of Video
Cameras utilize digital video to receive clear images. Most surveillance systems operate at night or when the business is closed. Many cameras contain lens that can see through a spectrum of light, such as infrared. Most security cameras are constructed to view properties in the dead of night.

Closed Circuit Television
Property owners can view what is happening on their property thanks to closed circuit television. Closed circuit television transmits video transmissions to a television. A business owner or a security firm can see the video around a business from the safety of a different location. Closed circuit television also works for private property owners. A private property owner may watch her property's surroundings from a safe location, such as a panic room or a different part of her house.

Wireless Options
Many cameras may come with a wireless option, which reduces their bulk and installation hassle. The wireless cameras will transmit the same quality camera footage to a broadcast television for a property owners or security firms television.

Camera Security Systems Permit You To Record Everything That Transpires When You’re Not Home

It is no joke to operate a store. Apart from making sure that it makes money, I have to equip it with the right security machines. This has become more vital given that crime is more rampant at present. A neighboring shop was looted a couple of weeks prior by some guys who were possibly frequent customers. The theft seemed to be the handiwork of someone who knew the location well, according to the owner.
I was scared after being told about it, which prompted me to look for camera security systemscamera security systems. The encounter showed that criminals could attack at any time. It would be beneficial for me to be equipped with complete surveillance and be able to bust the robbers.
There were a lot of choices for camera security systems on the Internet, making it easy to procure one. The 16 Channel Wired DVR Complete System, for example, is a comprehensive set of spy cameras that can address the monitoring needs of a house or office.
As I conducted further Web research, I discovered that 16 wired color day/night bullet cameras and a 16-channel DVR were included in the 16 Channel Wired DVR Complete System. Added to those were 16 video cables a length of 100 feet and a 17-inch LCD monitor. Making it more interesting was that I could watch videos live from anywhere in the world over the Internet.
I continued going over camera security systems and stumbled into the 4 Channel DVR Complete System ? Deluxe, which again provides complete surveillance in a convenient bundle. The system consists of 2 dome cameras and 2 bullet cameras, all suited for outdoor and indoor use, plus a 4-channel DVR and an LCD monitor. It also has 4 sets of power supplies and 4 cables. Likewise, I can watch the clips from anywhere with an Internet connection.
Considering my limited budget, I settled for the 4 Channel DVR Complete System – Economy. It has similar contents with the only difference being that playback on a separate location is not possible. I did not mind that because I was in most of the time so looking at video on the Web was not necessary.
One week back, I set up the 4 Channel DVR Complete System ? Economy. Yesterday, it captured someone pilfering boxes of bathroom products. After I found the recording, I called law enforcers and he was picked up before he could escape.
Camera security systems, I have learned, are true must-haves for any business such as my grocery.

What Makes a Good Security Camera System?

You want to protect your business and home. But, what makes a good security camera system? Learn some tips on buying security cameras and some recommendations as well!

Overview

Security cameras vary as much as their uses. Indoor cameras are used to keep watch inside homes and offices. Outdoor cameras, on the other hand, are made to withstand weather conditions and protect the perimeter. There are also some higher-end, more specialized cameras that are used to protect companies who do not have night watchmen or staff. So, what makes a good security camera? Here are some things to look out for when going to buy a security camera.

Security Camera Lenses

First of all, get a camera with a good lens. Good lenses allow you to see intricate details like faces, clothing, license plates and other identifying markings that could assist you if you do have a break-in. Buy lenses that have glass as opposed to plastic. Plastic lenses can easily scratch and do not provide fine details.

Get a lens that has some type of protective coating. This will help keep the lens clean and are resistant to color blending when the camera zooms in. While high megapixels can add additional details to your camera, a good lens is more important than a high megapixel camera.

Megapixels and Zoom

Another issue with high megapixel cameras is that the image takes up a lot of space and bandwidth. If you are watching your video from another room or another building, your images may stall or cut out with higher megapixel cameras because it has to be transmitted over the Internet. And, the larger the files, the longer that it takes to transmit.

Buy cameras with both optical and digital zoom. Your optical zoom will zoom in on an object while your digital zoom will expand the optical zoom by magnifying the object if you need a closer look. A good optical/digital zoom ratio is 200x digital zoom and a 10x optical zoom.

Home Security System

A good, budget security camera system is the VideoSecu 1/3 inch Sony CCD Outdoor Video Security Camera. For about $90 online, this camera comes with a weatherproof housing, an infrared f3.6 mm corrective lens, light sensor and 100 feet of power cable. It has a resolution up to 420 TVL, and the images are very crisp and clean. It is a closed circuit television system, which means that the video is transmitted to a monitor. This system works well for homes or small offices.

Business Security Camera

For businesses, the $500 online Lorex Edge Series Video Surveillance System comes with four cameras that can be set up around and outside the office. It comes with four camera stands, adapters and extension cables. It is weather resistant and comes with 18 infrared LED lights, which allow the cameras to pick up to 50 feet of details at night.

Other features include motion detectors, a timer, the ability to change to black and white in low-light situations, and the ability to continually record footage. This camera also is a closed circuit camera, allowing business owners to check up on their business when they’re not in the office. Companies of all sizes can use this system. But, there is one drawback. If you have a larger office, you may have to invest in two to cover the entire area.
